What’s an Access Control List (ACL)? An Access Control List is a list, saved on a network router, of allowed devices on a network. This list determines which devices are permitted to connect to the network and which devices will not be enabled. Using this type of list, a wifi administrator (or home user) can block unauthorized access to their network. If your virtual router could not be started, you can find the solution on our websie.
Access Control Lists are configured using a wireless router. A network hub device will not function. A network hub allows all traffic it will not filter any traffic. Traffic is filtered by a router, you can block traffic in either direction or re-route traffic. A router could be a basic router (ie. NetGear, Linksys) from any electronics store, an advanced router (i.e. Cisco Router) or a server/workstation configured as a router. A router based on that information and stores information in its ACL, directs traffic in and out of a network.
This list has one apparatus listed. Just this apparatus could get the wireless network, if the Access list was turned on. You can assemble an ACL and chose to not execute access filtering, but if you spent time to build the list, might as well utilize it. There are more devices today, that can access a WiFi network than a couple of years past. Such devices are Gaming Systems, Smart Phones, Laptops, Tablets, etc.
Most users are familiar with securing their wifi networks by adding a network access password. This can help secure their network but it is not impossible that some hackers could locate your network password. Adding an Access Control List will further reduce unauthorized access with the addition of a second level of defense. If the computer attempting to access the network is not recorded with this list, they will not be enabled to get the network. There are some hackers who are able to hijack a MAC address that is valid, so there are not any 100% secured systems but some security is better than none at all. One additional security measure we’re able to add (after executing ACL), would be to disable SSID broadcast.
